Career Choice

The ultimate goal in life is to be happy. Happiness cannot be bought, but it can actually be chosen as a way of life. One cannot be happy doing something he/she hates. Choosing a career is like choosing a way of life since career is something that's suppose to last a lifetime. Choosing a career can be very challenging for some people while for some others, its been imprinted on them since birth.


But actually, choosing a career shouldn't be irksome. Following the quote of the famous chinese philosopher Confucius that says "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." That's actually true. When you are in a career path that makes you happy, you'll surely excel. I've always loved working with a computer and when I got my first job that allows me to actually work on a computer system, I was more than happy. Despite the fact that pay was low I still loved and cherished the job.

Choosing the right career

When choosing a careeer, you need to ask yourself some questions:

• Do you love the career?
• Does it make you happy?
• Do you posses the required skills?
• Will it suffice?
• Does it allows for personal growth?

Do you love the career'?

Loving the career is of utmost importance. Pursuing a career that you love enhances the enthusiasm towards such career. If you love something, you will work relentlessly to get it. Besides the fact that you enjoy doing this thing, you have to put some other things into consideration.

Does it makes you happy?

Fine you love the career. But does it make you happy? Doing something that makes you happy increases productivity. Its not all about passion, love or happiness even if they are more impotant but all other factors combined balance can be obtained.

Do you posess the required skills?

Great you love your career, it makes you happy. But do you have any idea how to go about it? Do you even know what it takes to reach the peek of your chosen career? I really loved working with a computer system, I was so happy when i go my first job that entails me sitting in front of one, but the joy dwindled as soon as found out that I have little idea what a computer is used. To pursue my career I started taking computer related tutorials been paying off so far. So ask yourself do I have what it takes to pursue this career?

Will it suffice?

Besides career, everybody has a dream. Another question you should keep aking yourself is if you will be able to achieve your dreams with this chosen career. Like I said earlier, career isn't all about your passion. These days I've seen people have passion for silly things, if such people choose their career path in their puny passion they might find it difficult to reach their goals. This is why you must check, will this career be sufficient enough? Will you be able to make ends meet if you pursue this career?

Does it allows for personal growth?

Now you've chosen a career, fully analyzed it, and realized its going to work so what next? The chosen career should be able to offer you a Work-Life balance, it should be spontaneous, give space for personal growth and give you time for yourself. Is it something your kids or other family members can continue if you are not around? All these has to be put into consideraton when choosing a career. Remember career is supposed to last a lifetime.
